About Jute Rug Shedding

All natural-fiber rugs shed to some degree, particularly in the first weeks of use. Here's how we manage it:

• Higher thread count (18 epi) — more interlacings per inch means each fiber bundle is held more securely; fewer loose ends can work their way to the surface
• Whipstitch edge binding — a cotton twill tape is whipstitched around all four edges after weaving, covering the raw jute edge where most shedding begins; this is where most budget jute rugs cut costs and where shedding is worst
• Pre-washed at production — the rug is vacuumed and brushed at the factory before shipping to remove loose surface fibers that would otherwise shed in your home during the first weeks

Materials & Care

100% natural jute with cotton edge binding. Do NOT machine wash. Vacuum regularly (without beater bar) to remove surface dust. Rotate every 3–6 months for even wear. Spot clean spills immediately with a dry white cloth; blot, do not rub. For wet cleaning, use a barely damp cloth with mild soap, then dry completely in a well-ventilated area — do not allow jute to remain damp for more than 2 hours, as it can develop mildew and a characteristic earthy odor.
