The soumak technique is significantly slower than plain weave and produces a denser, more three-dimensional surface that catches light differently depending on the runner's orientation on the table.

Construction Details

• Soumak weave structure — the weft wraps twice around each warp thread before advancing; this locks the weft in place without a second "plain-weave" return row, producing a distinct diagonal ridge on the surface
• 100% combed cotton, rope-weight — the thicker yarn makes the soumak ridges more pronounced; a finer yarn in soumak would produce a smoother surface but less visible texture
• Cream — undyed cotton — no dye or bleach; the warmly off-white tone comes from the natural cotton fiber; safe for use on wood, glass, and fabric tablecloths without dye transfer risk
• Knotted fringe, 2.5 inches — warp ends hand-knotted in groups of six; the fringe hangs naturally from the 14-inch width at each end of the 72-inch length

Materials & Care

100% combed cotton, undyed. Machine wash cold, gentle cycle. Tumble dry low or lay flat. Do not bleach. The soumak ridges will flatten temporarily in the dryer — lay flat while still slightly damp to restore the textured profile, or press lightly with a cool iron on the reverse side.
